Santa Fe - Ahead of the 2022 election cycle, the National Education Association – New Mexico (NEA-NM) announced that Governor Michelle Lujan-Grisham is their recommended gubernatorial candidate.
After meeting NEA-NM’s standards and completing the Union’s recommendation process – submitting a gubernatorial questionnaire and attending a virtual Q&A forum with members - NEA-NM’s Education Political Action Committee and Board of Directors unanimously voted to recommend Governor Michelle Lujan-Grisham for a second term.
NEA-NM President Mary Parr-Sanchez stated, “Governor Lujan-Grisham is committed to meaningful positive outcomes for all students and educators including access to high-quality early childhood education, combating the educator shortage by paying educators more and bringing down the cost of healthcare insurance in order to deliver an equitable and quality education that all public-school students in New Mexico deserve.”
“Governor Lujan-Grisham has worked to reform our public education system by expanding the number of Community Schools throughout the state and shoring up funding for higher education.” Parr-Sanchez said. “There is still much to do for our public education system. It’s a challenge after the Governor inherited years of neglect of our public schools. We believe she is the right person to continue leading the change our students and educators desperately need.”
NEA-NM is a state affiliate of the NEA, the largest Union in the country with over 3 million members.
