Standing on the Shoulders of Great Leaders!

We recognize that we stand on the shoulders of the great leaders that have come before us and we give deep and sincere recognition to their struggles.

Now, as I enter my sixth and final year as NEA-NM President, I encourage you, our members, to take another step into the leadership of your union, whether it be to become the association representative at your school or department, run for a local position, serve on the NEA-NM Board of Directors, or serve in state/national Leadership.  We unequivocally welcome your participation, ideas and sweat equity.

As decisions are made at all levels of government that can deeply and profoundly the work that you do every single day, we need you to show up in this critical election cycle and vote for the NEA recommended candidates - candidates that have been recommended because of their record in supporting and funding public education.  Now, more than ever, we must uphold the fragile democracy that has always been more of an experiment than a sure thing.  We must also be aware of false information and conspiracy theories, coming from both within and outside our country, that can suppress participation and obscure the facts.

The NEA family is strong, but it is only ever as strong as the actions we take together.  Please ask your school neighbor to become a valued member of our union. They may join us at the button below. Talk about the importance of both the NEA-NM internal elections and the state/national elections in November for the leadership of our country.  Your participation is necessary, not optional, if we want to achieve the best outcomes for the future of our educators and students.

And lastly, keep up the hard work and don’t lose sight of the goal posts: a thriving country and thriving schools fueled by and through strong locals and a strong state affiliate.

Have a safe, productive, creative and fun school year!
