Important PDP Information and Opportunities

Teachers and all Community School practitioners have the opportunity to earn a stipend and become part of a Future Focused Community of Practice.
Published: August 29, 2022

Key Takeaways

  1. We are launching a paid mentoring program during the 22-23 school year.
  2. We are recruiting 20 students to join a Youth Advocacy Council

We are looking for people to join the Capstone Educator Network to engage with educators from around the state in learning about and practicing community-based learning and assessment. This group meets on the first Wednesday of every month from 4:00-5:30 but will begin on September 21. The stipend for this group is $1,000 a semester, $2,000 a year and includes a 3 hour monthly commitment for meetings and pre and post work. To join, educators can complete this form or attend the orientation meeting on September 7th; the Zoom links are included in this flier.

We are also recruiting 20 students to join a Youth Advocacy Council to learn about civic engagement and conduct research to recommend policy change in the legislative session. Please email [email protected] to recommend young people who might be interested; they should be current high school students in NM.

Additionally, NEA New Mexico is launching a paid mentoring program during the 2022-2023 school year. We are looking to recruit outstanding experienced educators who are active NEA NM members who are committed to supporting other educators through mentorship. We will pair these mentors with early career educators in year 1-3 of the profession. Mentors and mentees will receive a $1,500 stipend per successful semester of engagement. Mentors and Mentees will also receive training and support through NEA NM and the Center for Community Schools. We are also hopeful this will support mentors and mentees professional development plans as they set individual and meaningful goals for professional growth that impact them as professionals and the students they serve.  By providing mentorship and professional learning, NEA NM and the Center for Community Schools will advance social justice in education by ensuring that all educators are prepared to design inclusive spaces for all learners by employing anti-racist, community-based, identity-affirming, and culturally and linguistically responsive practices in their classrooms. More information about the program can be found here. Interested mentors and mentees, please email Angelia Ebner at [email protected].

NEA NM is proud to support a Fall session of Jump Start for those who might be interested in learning more about pursuing National Board Certification. National Board Certification is based on professional standards for what accomplished teachers should know and be able to do. Join NM National Board Certified Teachers as we demystify the NBC process, delve into the NB standards, and help participants understand the requirements of NB certification. Jump Start is a 3-day program (September 24, October 8, and October 22, 2022 9am - 4pm MT) that will help you dive into National Board Certification and prepare for your candidacy journey. National Board Certified Teachers in New Mexico receive an annual salary differential around $7294.50.  For more information or if you have any questions, please email Angelia Ebner at [email protected] or use this link to register for Jump Start today.
