Special Board of Directors Recognition, 2023
Collaborating with partner groups like NM Voices for Children, the NM Center on Law and Poverty, CHI St. Joseph’s Children, Ole NM, La Semilla, Save Children, SW Organizing Project (SWOP), Working Families, Civic Policy Center, Community Action Agency and many others, Bethany represented NEA-NM and worked with intense focus and passion to see CA1 passed.
Additionally, Bethany worked together with our parent organization, NEA, to get several paid television advertisements developed that showed children teaching a class on why CA1 was important. Who else would have been better? In her own words, as stated for print media, “Until very recently, our schools were massively underfunded, with programs slashed in favor of high stakes testing and punitive teacher evaluations. We’ve seen from the implementation of historic raises that investing in our teachers and students reaps tangible dividends. We are at a pivotal moment in education, with the chance to transform teaching and learning in New Mexico, with a YES vote on CA1.” Well done Vice-President Jarrell!
